St Croix Versa Grate Shaker Tips & Tricks

Posted on by Earth Sense Energy System

We often hear from customers regarding the Versa Grate in their St. Croix Pellet Stove. The Versa Grate is essentially the bottom or base of the firepot/burnpot grate weldment. It’s important that area is cleaned periodically and to do it correctly the Versa Grate Shaker Plate has to be removed.

For proper removal the versa grate shaft needs to be centered which is the far back in the opening. It is sometimes able to be finagled out without it being completely centered.

If there is difficulty placing it back in, you will need to ‘Center’ the Versa Grate Shaft Spacer.

For Rocker Switch Control Board Models: Have the burnpot/weldment grate removed, door open, turn the stove on, and watch for the shaft to move backward and forward. Flip the rocker switch to off on the control board when the shaft is back at it’s furthest point.

For Touch Button Models: Have the burnpot/weldment grate removed, door closed, turn the stove on, and watch for the shaft to move backward and forward. Open the firebox door when the shaft is back at it’s furthest point. (A good flashlight helps immensely.)

NOTE: A few pellets may fall and the igniter will be on for a brief moment. Be careful and wear hand protection.

Next you need to align the shaker plate over the sleeve spacer which is typically held on to the shaft with a cotter key.  The spacer will fit between the slots of the Shaker Plate.  The Shaker Plate can only slide into place one way.

Once properly in place the Shaker Plate will rock evenly from side to side. Your burnpot weldment grate should bottom out close to flush with the shaker plate properly in place.
