Quadra-Fire Technical, Auger Feed Issues, 4 Spd & 3 Spd Control Boards
William Writes In-
Problem with the pellet feed on an Original Mt Vernon 4 speed, board Number 7000-126. Recently replaced the system control board. Getting blue flashing light at start and a green light. No red light in controller, red light on the back of stove. Black button on side of stove below speed control, to force feed more pellets sounds like it’s working. The Auger does not move or vibrate while clicking button. How would I know if it is the auger motor or the controller??
Mr. Pellethead Responds-
Happy to assist William. When power is applied to a cold stove you’ll see a momentary yellow light (thermocouple test), then for 60 seconds a blue flashing light (count equal to the board setting). If the stove is cold there should be no green or red light present. The green light only indicates an achieved thermocouple temperature reading of 200 degrees. The red light represents an achieved thermocouple temperature reading of 600 degrees. The green light indicates to the board proof of fire and signals the start of normal feed cycles.
Is the feed system totally not functioning?
The simplest issues would be a loose wire connection, feed system restriction, an auger jam, loose set screw on the auger motor shaft or vacuum line hose nipple blockage at the top of the auger tube.
The feed system circuit comprises of four components
1) CONTROL BOARD
2) FEED MOTOR
3) VACUUM SWITCH
4) #2 SNAP SWITCH
The use of certain diagnostic tools such as a volt meter, ohm meter, jumper wire and 120 volt power cord would be used to isolate which of these could be an issue.

Hello,
I wanted to thank you for this forum and all the information and help you provide everyone. I also want to thank Matt H. for continuing his posts and advising of his outcome. So for me it was switching the wires on the TC as well. I will no longer be dealing with my local Quad dealer and definitely be doing all my business here. Thanks again for everyones support!
Thanks Jim! Very glad to hear this was helpful. Any other questions or future needs please let us know.

Hello, I have a Quadra-fire Mt Vernon pellet stove. It is about 12 years old and has been working great up until the last year. Earlier this year the main control board failed. The stove quit working and the control board had an electrical overheating smell. I replaced the board and the stove operated properly for about 2 months. Today sparks started shooting out of the area where the control board is mounted. The stove quit working again. I don’t want to put another control board in the stove until I find out what is causing the problem. Any suggestions where I should start looking?
Tom,
Thanks for contacting us. Do you have an original Mt Vernon with with the 4 Speed Control or do you have the Mt Vernon AE model? Just want to verify that first.
Happy to help.
Thanks,

Tom,
We do need to know if you have a an original Mt Vernon or Mt Vernon AE to better assist. Our Tech also inquired: Also, what was the stove doing when sparks were seen?
1. Off, nothing running.
2. In start up.
3. Stove running and producing heat.
Guesses-
1. 4 speed board = direct short in the control board base.
2. AE = Power supply to igniter circuit.
Happy to assist.

Hi I have the CB-1200 quadra Fire I replaced the exhaust fan motor that was making noise and was now running better than ever , now I can’t get the pellets to drop or the pot to heat up , the red light turns on and the exhaust fan motor goes on, but I opened up the door and also opened up the compartment Obove the ash tray taking out the 2 screws . The igniter won’t get hot which won’t make the pot get hot , which I guess would mean the thermocouple can’t sense heat , is it the igniter? Or possibly any other thing ? All areas are clean learned over the years several places to clean and there clean
Hey Pat,
Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. That igniter should be cherry red after about two minutes of the unit being turned on. If that loop igniter element is not getting red you will want to check that. You can use a basic multi-meter and check the ohms. We can let you know the operable range. As for pellets not falling during start-up, that would be something else. If the front door or ash door is open it will trip the vacuum switch and pellets will not drop during start-up. It’s also good to make sure there is no ash blockage in the stove or vent – this will also trip the vacuum switch. Depending on the year, the fuel hopper door lid may need to be closed or that will trip the vacuum switch
If your exhaust motor failed in operation the stove may have gotten too hot and tripped the high limit switch. The high limit switch in your model should have a little reset button in the middle.
Once pellets drop and light is where the thermocouple comes into play. It senses temperature and provides indication to the control board on when to go into normal operating mode.
Happy to help anyway we can.

Hi, we have a Quadra Fire Countour. It will no longer start. If we manually start it, it will work. I have replaced the snap disk #2, the other snap disks are ok. There is no power going to the igniter after testing. The red call light comes on with the thermostat, but never runs. There is also a small red light always blinking on the control box.
Brenda,
Thanks for contacting us. So if you manually start/light your stove it functions fine through start-up and normal operation? Is it just your ignition that is the issue?
It still will be good to get an ohm reading on the igniter itself – If you have a white wire igniter, ohms should be 35.5 – 43.5. If you have a black wire igniter, ohms should be 43.5 – 53.5. Let’s make sure the igniter is 100%.
If the igniter is fine and you test the voltage from the lead wires coming to the igniter and you are not getting any reading, then let’s track those wires back. Make sure the stove is unplugged and physically inspect the wires all the way to the Junction Box (Where all the wires come in and the control board board is seated).
If everything looks normal with the wiring, Let’s pull the control box out and then install back in.
If there are no changes and the wires coming to the igniter have no voltage coming through when the stove is on and calling for heat, then it most likely is an issue with the Junction Box, Control Box or a combination of the two.
Happy to assist however we can. We do stock all parts for the Contour and guarantee the best prices.

Have classic Bay quadra fire 1200 fs. Was running fine, then last night stopped working. Hit reset button and got nothing. No click, no pellets dropping. Just the red light and exhaust fan running. Had to unplug stove and plug back in. Worked for one cycle then does same thing when thermostat calls for heat again.
Thanks for contacting us Spencer, happy to assist. Let’s start by checking the simple things first.
1. Make sure that the front firebox door and ash pan door are sealing and closing properly. Depending on the year, some 1200 models had a vacuum trip switch in the hopper door as well. Make sure that is closed.
2. Let’s bypass the thermostat to see if our issue is there. Pull the thermostat wires out of the little rear terminal and put a wire or large staple in place to create the circuit there.
Let us know what you find.
Thanks,
