Welcome Back to Pellet Tech 101!
This blog will cover the Quadra-Fire Mt. Vernon E2 and Mt. Vernon E2 Insert troubleshooting and error code outline. This troubleshooting guide will go through symptoms, possible causes, corrective actions, alarm/flashing red LED error codes, reference materials, and control board schematics. When experiencing an issue, it’s always best practice to inspect the simple things first. Quadra-Fire’s troubleshooting guide will provide common problem-cause-solution outlines which are a great place to start if issues arise. The Mt. Vernon E2 is equipped with an alarm that will provide flashing red LED error codes which provides accurate troubleshooting and service direction. The reference materials outline will provide an oversight on the primary components in your Mt. Vernon E2. Understanding your stoves components along with the wiring schematic provides greater insight during your cleaning, maintenance, and service.

My Mt Vernon E2 will not get past the initial minute of starting up. The convection blower starts and runs for about 30-45 seconds, and then shuts down. No pellets are being fed. The status light continues to blink a steady green, and shows no error codes. I have replaced the control board, auger, heat dial, and igniter, and the situation has not changed. The snap discs and hopper lid were jumped by a technician with no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for contacting us John. Definitely makes it more challenging to decipher without receiving any error codes. Let’s double check the Exhaust Probe in the unit. Make sure the electrical connection is secure and give the probe itself a good cleaning with fine steel wool or a scotch brite pad. Keep us posted, happy to help. Thanks,
I have faced a similar problem where the combustion blower turns on when I turn on the unit but after about a minute or so, i get the red light with 6 flashes. I have changed the exhaust blower and the control board several times but it just keeps happening. And the really weird thing is that sometimes, the unit randomly starts working as if nothing has happened. And the error typically occurs after I unplug the unit for cleaning and try to restart it. thank you for your help in advance
Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. Given the information here I think it will be important to check the exhaust probe in your E2 model. This is a safety sensor and requires to periodically be inspected and cleaned. Suggested to pull out the exhaust probe and use fine steel wool or a scotch brite pad to clean off any accumulated ash/residue. Here is a reference link to the replacement exhaust probe for the E2. Keep us posted, happy to help.
Thanks,
Our snap switch will not turn the blower on and off on our Winslow pellet stove. We replaced the snap switch and it still is not starting and stopping the blower.
Thanks for contacting us. Let’s double check the area where the blower snap switch is mounted. Remove the blower and make sure any excess dust accumulated in the air channel behind where the switch sits is cleaned out.

My Mt Vernon has an error code of SS short
I have not seen this one before??
Hi Kathey,
Thanks for the message, happy to help. SS Short error indicates a ‘Soft Start’ error. It indicates that there is an issue from ignition into normal operation. The Thermocouple is the temperature sensing device over the burnpot that signals to the control board during start-up to go into normal operating mode. Let’s start by inspecting the thermocouple – clean and pull off the ceramic cover tube, inspect the thermocouple end and placement over the burnpot, and double check the wiring connection for it. Keep us posted. Thanks.
My mt Vernon pellet insert is kicking electrical breaker.
Thanks for contacting us. Do you know which Mt. Vernon Model you have? Mt Vernon OE (4-Speed), Mt Vernon AE (Advanced Energy) or Mt. Vernon E2? Initially here we would suggest checking the electrical and wiring. See if voltage coming from the plug is consistent. If you have a Surge Protector in place, check the voltage coming out of that. From there inspect the stove cord, cord connections, and all wiring. See if anything is loose or if there are any bare wires grounding out in the unit.
Happy to help, keep us posted.
Thanks.
I have a Mt vernon E2 Insert. I am getting two blinks which states a temp. probe problem. Replaced probe, and still get it. If I reverse polarity on Probe wires , it someytimes turns green and goes into start up, but starts blinking 2 red flashes again. Circuit Board, Contol Box?
Thanks for the message and inquiry Mark, happy to assist. Speaking with our tech team on this now, we will follow up ASAP.
Appreciated,
Thanks for your patience Mark. Assuming the new temp probe is good, this would most likely be a control board issue. Although it’s rare, sometimes there can be issues with new replacement parts. You can warranty the new probe and see if another replacement fixes the issue. If the same issue is present then it’s most likely the control board, sku: SRV7080-050.
