The RV refrigeration thermocouple serves as an electro-mechanical safety device that senses if the pilot flame in an RV appliance is present. When the pilot flame is lit, the thermocouple heats up and generates a small electrical current that powers an electromagnet in the main appliance valve, holding it open to supply propane to the appliance. If the pilot flame goes out, the thermocouple stops generating the electrical current, causing the electromagnet to de-energize and the valve to close automatically, preventing the accumulation of explosive gas mixtures. This ensures that gas flow is shut off when the pilot light is not lit, enhancing safety.
