St Croix Control Board Functions, Operation and Diagnostic Error Codes

Welcome Back to Pellet Tech 101!

This blog will cover St. Croix pellet and corn stove control board functions, operation, and diagnostic error codes. Our first video will cover general control board functions, buttons, and operation. The second video will dive into the diagnostic error codes, general causes for the error code, and common solutions. St. Croix’s YouTube channel can also be an excellent reference for greater understanding of the control board, maintenance, damper adjustment, and Smartstat/T-Stat thermostat control.

Over the years St. Croix has had a number of different control/circuit boards. Original St. Croix stoves had a rotary style rocker switch control board. Around 2004 St. Croix moved over to a digital LED control board for there pellet and corn stove models. Since the inception of the digital control board, there have been a few revisions to the design and function of the control board. Operation and error code diagnostics will be different on earlier generation St. Croix control boards in comparison to the current replacement control boards. St. Croix’s latest digital control board replaces all previous digital control boards for their pellet and multi-fuel freestanding and insert stoves, part number 80P30523B-R. The St. Croix Revolution furnace will use control board 80P30333-R, and SCF-050 furnace model will use control board 80P30205-R. We do offer the St. Croix control board faceplate decal replacement, part number 80P30523-OL-R. If you have an early St. Croix model with the rotary style control board, browse the retro-fit control board kits for correct replacement.

  1. So we plugged in the old control board again and the fan works just fine for the room fan part that pushes the heat. But with the new control board it wont kick on at all. Faulty new part possible?

    1. Thanks for contacting us Jamie, we saw both of your messages. Happy to help and get to the root of the issue here. What was the reason you purchased and exchanged out the control board? What was going on with the stove? There’s a possibility that there is an issue with the board, although rare it can happen, however we want to take a look at other potential issues that may be causing the problem here before determining that this is an issue with the new control board.

      Happy to help.

  2. Our St. Croix Lancaster stove is very old and it was starting to make a really loud grinding sound. We ordered new combustion and convection fans. The stove finally shut down on us the other day and was flashing a #4 light on the display. We replaced the two fans, manually put pellets into the ash pit with some lighter fluid and a match, and then turned the stove back on. It ran for awhile and the one fan kicked off, but the #4 light continued to flash the entire time and the auger never kicked out any pellets. The stove eventually shut down. We unplugged it for several hours and went back out to repeat the steps. Again, the #4 light continued to flash and the stove shut down. Any suggestions on what to do next?

    1. Thanks for contacting us, happy to help. The #4 light will indicate a high limit switch issue. The high limit switch has a red button button in the middle to reset the switch if it is tripped. The high limit is in line with the auger motor so if it trips or if the switch is faulty it will shut down the fuel feed. Recommended to first push the button on the high limit switch to reset and see if anything changes. If it does not, than more than likely that switch will need to be replaced. Here is the OEM, which is special order as well as the aftermarket we offer. Hope that helps, keep us posted.
