The Country Winslow PS40 and Winslow PI40 will use the same igniter element, part number H6005. This is 400 watt igniter element encased in the igniter housing/tubing. The igniter is located at the base of the burnpot. During the start-up cycle the igniter will receive a charge from the control board allowing the element to get cherry hot. The combustion air rushing past the igniter becomes 'super-heated' creating ignition to the pellets in the burnpot. If we have any issues with air loss or air blockage we will have ignition issues. You can check your igniter ohms with a basic multi-meter to determine if it is in proper range.

When you are experiencing an ignition issue and your igniter element is in proper ohm range, check the simple things first.

  • Igniter fuse – continuity test
  • Ash build-up in the stove/vent – thoroughly clean
  • Door and ashpan gasket sealing tight – inspect and test
  • Burnpot/Firepot – cleaned and seated properly
  • Combustion blower operating correctly – inspect and test

When it comes time to replace your Winslow PS40 or Winslow PI40 igniter element, make sure your stove is unplugged from the wall, have a good light source, and have the right tools handy. Installation guide video below on replacing the igniter in your Winslow.

Our Emerson digital readout wall thermostat works great for the Winslow PS40 and PI40. Operating on the wall thermostat, your Winslow stove will start-up, build a fire based on your control board heat setting, and once temperature is met it will automatically adjust the stove to running at the lowest setting. It will stay at that low setting for a period of 60 minutes. If the thermostat calls for heat during that period, the stove will ramp itself back up. If the thermostat does not call for heat after the 60 minute period, the stove will go into shutdown mode. When heat is called for again, your Winslow will automatically start up. Please Note: The Winslow control board low fire temperature met, with the use of a Country Diagnostic tool, can be set between zero and 240 minutes. The factory default is 60 minutes and the two ways to determine the actual setting is with the diagnostic tool or actually running the stove and timing the low fire. The Emerson Digital thermostat works well with this control board, however we recommend staying away from programmable thermostats for the Winslow stoves.
